WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A HVAC CONTRACTOR?

Conditioned air is not merely cooling when it’s hot. It’s not just heating when it’s cold. Conditioned air is far more, it’s purified, it’s filtered, it’s an effort to make the home or work environment comfortable for the occupants.

It isn’t just the addition of a space heater or a window air conditioning unit. Modern buildings require careful consideration of the air quality. HVAC—Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning—aren’t just heating and air conditioning, though it certainly provides those.

The entire system provides a means to:

·         Control the temperature

·         Control the humidity

·         Obtain fresh oxygen

·         Remove moisture, odors, smoke, dust, airborne bacteria, and carbon dioxide.

·         Introduce outside air, feed it to conditioning systems, and move it about the building, preventing stagnation.

That takes a hvca contractor. HVAC provides comfort to the occupants and with it a conditioning of the indoor air quality. The modern building, and certainly the modern commercial building, must have engineered HVAC systems. Contractors must determine the capacity of a building and then engineers must analyze that data, design, and specify the HVAC system.

Every HVAC is different and is tailored to the building where it is installed. The fabrication of the system must then be done and installed according to local codes. This means building permits and code inspections for compliance.

Ventilation distributes that heat or air. Furnaces often do not provide complete combustion, resulting in the emission of several gases, notably carbon monoxide, which is tasteless and odorless and a detriment to health.

The potential existence of carbon monoxide requires adequate ventilation to the outdoors. Carbon monoxide can cause headaches, nausea, fatigue, and vomiting. It reduces the blood’s ability to distribute oxygen to the body, potentially causing heart attacks. Ventilation includes the exchange of air between inside and the fresh air outside of the building as a means to maintain air quality within the building.

How It Works

The HVAC system cools by removing heat from the building through radiation, convection, or conduction. To do so may require water, air, ice, and chemicals as refrigerants compressed in heat pumps.

There are other ways to move air, of course, using ceiling fans and exhaust fans that circulate the air and/or move the air to the outside replenishing it with air from inside the building.

A building may be naturally ventilated simply by opening doors and windows, exchanging outdoor air for indoor air without the use of distributing ductwork. Factories are often cooled by opening the higher windows and allowing the hotter air to escape at the top. This would require some fan mechanisms for air movement and can be a part of the commercial HVAC mechanism.

As to the Question:

What do you want in a HVAC contractor? Licensed and insured, of course. Highly trained in HVAC design, installation, and maintenance. Capable, competent, and available to meet your needs. Reasonably priced wouldn’t hurt, as well.
